Fully flexible, fully online, and recognised by the Radiological Council of WA and QLD Radiation Health.

This course is designed for:
- Beauty therapists wanting to add laser tattoo removal to their service menu
- Aesthetic professionals already operating IPL or laser devices who need a formal tattoo removal qualification
- Nurses or health professionals entering the cosmetics field
- Clinic owners setting up a new tattoo removal offering
- Anyone in WA, QLD or TAS who needs to meet licensing requirements before using Class 4 Q-switched lasers
There are no entry requirements for this course. It is most suited to those with a background in beauty or health, but no prior laser experience is needed to enrol.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
The course covers two units studied online, with optional practical training available at the Perth Aspire Training Clinic.
Topics include:
- Laser and light physics - how Class 4 Q-switched lasers work and why they are effective for tattoo removal
- Laser safety protocols - Radiation Safety Act compliance, risk assessment and workplace management
- Tattoos and ink science - pigment types, ink depth, and how they respond to different laser wavelengths
- Q-switched laser parameters - pulse width, fluence settings and treatment protocols for different skin and ink types
- Q-switched vs picosecond technology - understanding the difference and when each is appropriate
- Wound healing post-treatment - aftercare guidance, complication management and patient follow-up
- Client assessment and informed consent - consultation frameworks and setting realistic expectations
- Hands-on laser training at a 2:1 student-to-trainer ratio (optional practical component, Perth-based)

RTO ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
As stipulated by the Radiological Council of WA, There is no entry requirement to this course. However, it is most suited to beauty and/or health professionals
COURSE DURATION AND STUDY LOAD
The theory component of this course will take approximately 60 hours and will have a maximum of 15 weeks to complete.
The optional practical training is delivered on a weekly sessional basis. The number of supervised hours is determined on a case by case basis. Please discuss your training requirements with [email protected].

Please Note: CDNLBT02 is a stand-alone unit though is also delivered as a core unit in the Advanced Diploma of Cosmetic Dermal Science, the Graduate Diploma of Cosmetic Nursing and the Graduate Diploma of Dermal Therapies.

CREDIT TRANSFER FOR AACDS GRADUATES
For graduates who have completed the unit CDNLBT02 / CDNLBT03 - Analyse light-based therapies used in cosmetic medicine and dermal therapies will be exempted. However, we do recommend you complete a refresher on the unit.
You will be provided FREE access to this online unit via the AACDS Student Portal.
