Completing her Clinical Placement

Clinical Placement Update

Clinical Placement is an optional unit in all AACDS qualifications. We encourage students who have little or no cosmetic clinical experience to undertake this unit to consolidate their learning. Please note that clinical placement is NOT the same as your hands on practical training. AACDS have a number of Host Cosmetic Clinics around Australia to complete your clinical placement, though if you have a specific clinic you would prefer to attend, you can request this.

Elizabeth Kellie is a current Graduate Diploma of Cosmetic Nursing student at AACDS, who’s completing her Clinical Placement. Elizabeth reports, “I’m currently completing my clinical placement at Academy Face and Body. It’s great to experience such a professional and diverse practice. I’m able to observe dermal therapies, injectables, theatre and pre/post-op patient care. I would really recommend that students complete their clinical placement to help consolidate their theory and practical training. – Elizabeth Kellie RN

For current AACDS students wanting to book their Clinical Placement, please email Maisie McIntyre on clientliaison@aacds.edu.au

Increasing Your Scope of Practice to Include Cosmetic Formulating

Have you ever wondered if having skills in cosmetic formulating can enhance your scope of practice as a cosmetic nurse or dermal therapist? Increasingly, clinics are looking to customise their product ranges to create a unique selling point and achieve better outcomes for their patients. Christelle Thiart, Director of Evolve Cosmetic Clinic, has just completed the Diploma of Personal Care Formulation. Christelle reports, “I really enjoyed the Diploma of Personal Care Formulation through AACDS.  This course has broadened my horizons in the field of dermal therapy and has enabled me to tailor make products specific for my patients skin needs. The course challenged me to gradually better myself and my clinic whilst allowing flexibility to suit my busy schedule. The Lecturers were also very helpful and professional. I would recommend this course to anybody with a dermal background”.

Update Regarding Laser Licensing in WA or QLD

There are only three states in Australia that require a licence to operate a class 3B or 4 laser – QLD, WA and TAS. For anyone considering a formal qualification in Dermal Therapies and/or Cosmetic Nursing, it’s imperative your qualification is recognised as meeting the laser licensing criteria so NO additional supervised hours are required upon graduation.
The following qualifications are recognised as meeting the laser licensing criteria for supervised hours by QLD Radiation Health and the Radiological Council of WA:
Advanced Diploma of Cosmetic Dermal Science
Graduate Diploma of Cosmetic Nursing
Graduate Diploma of Dermal Therapies

For past QLD and WA AACDS Graduates who completed their practical training prior to January 2019, please email enquiries@aacds.edu.au to learn about the Laser Bridging Course.
